For the first time, possibly ever, half of the DNC elected delegates for New Mexico’s first Congressional District are Young Democrats!
Congressional District 1 was allocated ten delegate positions, and the majority of Bernalillo County resides in CD1.
Bushra Elfarissi, Daniel A. Garcia, Augustine Montoya, David Trujillo, and Jacob Trujillo ran on a youth and diversity driven slate of candidates, looking to represent New Mexico’s demographic makeup, and represent the state’s youth perspectives. They were five of ten elected in last week’s State Post-Primary district level election.
John Dyrcz, Diane Gutterud, Molly McIntosh, Kathleen Moseley, and Whitney Muziani-Holland were also elected as CD1 delegates and all ran on platforms of staple Democratic ideals: civil rights, economic policy, environmental protections and more. Dyrcz and Muziani-Holland each also ran on a Pro-Union platform and will represent the Albuquerque Teachers Federation.
Running for a delegate position requires a commitment to raise funds to do so. According to data from the Democratic Party of New Mexico, it will cost each delegate approximately $6,000 for the trip, which is quite a heavy lift, especially for our young delegates. So, when requests to raise money come across your phone or inbox in the coming days, please do not turn these folks away. The convention is less than two weeks away and these delegates need your help!
The final tallies for the At-Large Delegates, Party Leaders/Elected Officials Delegates, and the Alternate Delegate positions will be announced later today.
¡Viva Nuevo México en Chicago!
